8 Foods to Always Eat Organic

Eating fresh produce is one of the best ways to nourish your body.  Unfortunately, if your food is not organic, it could be covered in pesticides that can cause major health concerns.

What does organic mean? “Organic” is a designation term used by the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Organic Program to certify food that is produced without synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, genetic engineering, irradiation or sewage sludge. By choosing organic foods, you can harvest the health benefits of vegetables and fruits without exposing yourself to potentially harmful chemicals.

We understand it can be expensive to purchase only organic foods. Per the Environmental Working Group, the following eight foods are the most susceptible to chemical pesticide use and absorption. Because of this risk, we recommend always purchasing the following eight foods organic:

  1. Bell Peppers
  2. Blueberries (domestic)
  3. Spinach
  4. Strawberries
  5. Cucumbers
  6. Apples
  7. Grapes
  8. Lettuce

Buy organic whenever possible. Not only is it smart to reduce your exposure to pesticides, but buying organic sends a message to companies that you support environmentally friendly farming practices that minimize soil erosion, safeguard workers and protect water quality and wildlife.

  1. You are always beettr off actually eating the foods that are beneficial for you, as opposed to taking a supplement. Instead of a pill, I would get yourself some delicious collards or some swiss chard or kale. There are few things my kids will devour faster than a huge bowl of swiss chard sauteed in a little olive oil and garlic!
