Nuts About Nuts: Why Nut Eaters Live Longer Lives

nuts, almonds, peanuts, nuts and longevity A new study associates peanuts and tree nuts with life extension.

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in November, found that rates of mortality decreased with each additional serving of nuts consumed on a daily and weekly basis, with one serving of nuts equaling 1oz.

When compared with participants who consumed nuts less frequently, those who consumed nuts more often were:

  • leaner
  • less likely to smoke
  • more likely to exercise
  • more likely to use multivitamin supplements

They also consumed more fruits and vegetables and, interestingly, drank more alcohol.

According to the authors, the ingredients in nuts confer cardio-protective, antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. A Greens Plus Energy Bar or Protein Bar, each contain nearly 1oz of nuts per serving, would be a great addition to your diet.

  1. I love chocolate, so I chose the Amazon Chocolate greens supplement powder. I felt better and just assumed that any greens supplement would be the same. My son didn’t want chocolate, so I grabbed another brand off the shelf to give him a vanilla flavor. I had no idea that other brands could taste chalky. Of course, I have been completely delighted with Greens Plus. I plan to share the berry flavored supplement in the future with my son. Thank-you for both delicious and nutritious supplementation. As a retired nurse, I am delighted to find wholistic answers not available through pharmaceutical companies.
