A new study associates peanuts and tree nuts with life extension.
The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in November, found that rates of mortality decreased with each additional serving of nuts consumed on a daily and weekly basis, with one serving of nuts equaling 1oz.
When compared with participants who consumed nuts less frequently, those who consumed nuts more often were:
- leaner
- less likely to smoke
- more likely to exercise
- more likely to use multivitamin supplements
They also consumed more fruits and vegetables and, interestingly, drank more alcohol.
According to the authors, the ingredients in nuts confer cardio-protective, antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. A Greens Plus Energy Bar or Protein Bar, each contain nearly 1oz of nuts per serving, would be a great addition to your diet.
