Book Review: The Aztec Diet by Dr. Bob Arnot
The Aztecs were a race of war-like people that ruled Central Mexico from the 14th through 16th centuries. These warriors domesticated some of the world’s most nutritious foods. Many of these foods are still consumed today such as maize (wild corn), squash, black beans, chili peppers, spirulina and chocolate. These foods helped provide the Aztecs with strength to build a powerful empire. Their most important dietary contribution is one of the most nutritionally complete seeds on the planet: the chia seed.
In the book, The Aztec Diet, author Dr. Bob Arnot explores the history, scientific research and health benefits of Omega 3 Chia Seeds. He lays out a detailed three-phase plan to end hunger cravings, improve health and help you lose weight.
Phase 1 introduces three Chia smoothies as the main meals in your daily diet. These delicious fresh fruit, vegetable and Chia recipes jump start your metabolism and begin the weight loss process. After a minimum of two weeks and depending on your weight loss goals, you move on to phase 2 by replacing the midday smoothie with a sensible lunch. This important change prevents the dieter’s plateau, when your body begins to adapt and results start to decline.
After six weeks on Phase 2, Phase 3 reintroduces a full meal schedule of healthy Aztec Foods. Dr. Arnot explains, The Aztec Diet works because the Chia Seed absorbs more than 7-10 times it weight in water, making you feel full while slowly emptying the stomach, which in turn delays hunger. Chia acts as a natural appetite suppressant by stabilizing blood sugar and helping you to avoid ‘Carb Bombs’ and ‘Flame-Throwers’: Dr. Arnot’s tongue-in-cheek terms for high glycemic and inflammatory food grenades, such as white bread, white rice and spaghetti. These foods wreak havoc on your digestive, metabolic and immune systems.
