California Date Palms

California Date Palms

Dates are the sweet, fibrous fruit of the Date Palm (Pheonix dactylfera), native to the Fertile Crescent region in modern day Iraq. With over 1000 individual cultivars and a wide selection of unique textures, flavors and nutritional characteristics, dates have been a staple food source since at least 4000bc.

First introduced by Spanish Conquistadors into Mexico, the Deglet Noor and Medjool varieties made their way into California via Christian missionaries in 1789. Since then, the Coachella and Imperial Valleys in Southern California are among the largest date producing regions in the world, yeilding more than 50,000 tons per year.

Combination of Simple Carbohydrates and Dietary Fiber make Dates the perfect High-Energy Superfood

Nutritionally, dates are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, B vitamins and essential minerals. Although naturally sweet and rich in glucose, fructose and sucrose, the high dietary fiber content slows the absorption of simple sugars and prevents a rapid spike in insulin during digestion, making dates the perfect high-energy snack food.

Greens Plus uses 100% California-grown, certified organic Medjool dates in our delicious, cold processed Natural, Chocolate and Omega 3 Chia Energy Bars. The addition of organic almond butter, wildflower honey and Original Superfood powder delivers a balanced supply of carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, and biologically-complete protein to provide a steady stream of energy throughout the day. Check them out at http://greensplus.com/index.php/cPath/84_29
