Greens Plus requires 3 layers of Testing
Eurofins Analysis – Green Tea
In response to the ongoing nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, Greens Plus has continued to test both raw materials and finished products for radioactive contamination.
First, Greens Plus requires all raw material suppliers to provide independent, third-party radioactivity tests of every lot of Green Tea and Chlorella exported from Japan.
Second, Greens Plus conducts its own third-party testing, utilizing Eurofins Scientific’s state-of-the-art Nutrition Analysis Center in Des Moines, Iowa. We not only test the two ingredients from Japan, but also Spirulina from Hawaii.
Eurofins Analysis – Chlorella
After the raw materials pass these tests, they are used to blend batches of Greens Plus powder, which are then periodically tested before bottling, to insure absolute safety.
We specifically analyze for Cesium 134 and Cesium 137
The industry standard testing method for radioactivity is Iodine 131. However, with a half-life of only 8 days, Iodine 131 is a poor measurement of contamination. Instead, we test for both Cesium 134 with a half-life of 2 years, and Cesium 137 with a half-life of more than 30 years.
Eurofins Analysis – Spirulina
Half-life is the time required for dangerous radioactivity to decay to half of its value. While the most abundant isotope created by the nuclear fission process is Iodine 131, Cesium’s longer half-life is a more accurate indicator of potential contamination.
Note on Results: Cesium 134 and 137 are tested using state-of-the-art Photostimulated Luminescence (PSL). 3 bq/kg (becquerel/kilogram) is the minimum analytical limit needed to detect radioactivity. Anything <3 bq/kg is considered undetectable by present standards and poses no serious health risks.
