What is a Cellular Antioxidant Assay?
The CAA is a human cell-cultured test that analyzes the bioavailability and antioxidant activity of foods. This is important because bioavailability determines the quantity of nutrients absorbed from the foods we eat.
First, cells are bathed in a solution to simulate human digestion. Next, the culture is washed of excess solution and only the nutrients that permeate the cell membrane remain. Free radicals are then introduced into the cell and the ability of the absorbed nutrients to reduce radical activity is compared to a control sample of Quercetin, a powerful antioxidant.
How many samples were tested?
In order to determine the importance of Soy Lecithin to the cellular absorption of nutrients, Greens Plus tested two samples of The Original Superfood formula: one with Lecithin and one without Lecithin.
