Continuing with the OBESITY and MORBID OBESITY ISSUES, it is critical that being honest and realistic IS THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of CHANGE. Understanding that being overweight is most often related to numerous complications, that would not otherwise be problematic, and must be appreciated, is a primary step.
When you consider the dangers of being overweight may happen to you, it really is time to begin to understand how you could personally, and needlessly suffer the trauma of the many negative results.
One simple thing to understand is that, you, and you alone really control your destiny.
The diet industry makes huge amounts of money, yet most users are simply wasting both time and money.
DIETS ARE NOT THE LONGTERM ANSWER TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM. THE WORD, “DIET”, is by it’s VERY DEFINITION, A BIG BAD NEGATIVE. The implication is that I CANNOT HAVE WHAT I REALLY WANT.
THE ONLY REAL SOLUTION IS –APPROPRIATE LONGTERM LIFESTYLE CHOICES. While changes in behavior may be difficult, being conscious of the benefits must be understood.
A VERY BASIC REALITY IS IF YOU CONSUME MORE CALORIES THAN YOU BURN, YOU CANNOT ARRIVE AT A HEALTHY WEIGHT.
Many years ago I worked with one of my students who was morbidly obese, married with 2 children. Betty was academically brilliant, and an became an accomplished professional. The problem became her self image for many reasons. She tried numerous weight loss diet programs, and when all failed, attempted suicide. It turned out that we learned that her husband was an enabler, to maintain control. Once divorced we had a much easier time in fulfilling her ultimate goal, and she was able to loose more than 180 pounds. She appeared on countless TV shows, and was a tireless spokesperson, helping many to overcome there issues. Of course this is but one case, but illustrates that there are many reasons for obesity.
Finding your reasons to want to reduce your weight is the first step. One of the things we did with Betty, was to hang a pair of her old slacks that she had kept from her early days, as a goal. It was a daily reminder for her maintenance, and it was a primary aid to success.
I truly believe that -SELF IMAGE-, is one of the greatest motivators in our DNA. Being content, and proud of oneself, is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
