A study published in the January 2013 issue of Nutrition Journal reviewed data, ranging from 2001 to 2008, from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), an on-going Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) project that interviews and physically examines 5000 people every year in order to produce vital health statistics for population of the United States.
Of the 17,567 people over 19 years of age surveyed, only 2% regularly consumed Avocados, with the average intake being 1/2 of an Avocado per day. The 2% was significantly associated with improved diet quality, nutrient intake and general health and wellbeing. Avocado eaters were leaner, with lower body weight and body mass index (BMI), a smaller waist circumference, and higher levels of HDL or good cholesterol than those who did not consume avocados on a regular basis.
